O.A.S.I.S Wellness Center Offers You Hope

If you have sleep apnea, you may be facing a lifetime of nightly CPAP or oral appliance use.

In contrast to most nonsurgical treatments for OSA that necessitate ongoing nightly intervention, research demonstrates that patients receiving treatment from Vivos doctors typically have an average treatment duration of 18-24 months.

Our approach entails a comprehensive treatment plan that involves the use of noninvasive and innovative oral appliance technology. These appliances are prescribed by skilled dentists and medical professionals to address dentofacial abnormalities, as well as mild-to-moderate OSA and snoring.

Sleep Apnea & Snoring

When we sleep, our muscles naturally relax. However, in the case of sleep apnea, the relaxation of neck and throat muscles can reach a point where the airway collapses, leading to disruptions or even stoppages in breathing. Upon waking up, our muscles restore the shape of the airway, allowing us to breathe normally again.

During these episodes, the levels of oxygen in our body can significantly drop, reaching dangerous levels. Sleep apnea has been linked to a notable increase in blood pressure during sleep, with spikes of 20 to 40 points above the normal range. It is believed that these elevated blood pressure levels contribute to what is known as "silent strokes," which gradually impair cognitive abilities in specific regions of the brain.

Furthermore, sleep apnea greatly impacts the quality of our sleep. The frequent awakenings prevent us from achieving deep, REM sleep, resulting in fragmented and disrupted sleep patterns. This takes a toll on our overall sleep quality and can leave us feeling deprived of restorative rest.

FAQ’s

Should snoring be ignored?

Snoring is not merely a loud and bothersome noise; it can serve as an important indicator of a Sleep Breathing Disorder (SBD) that should not be taken lightly. It is estimated that around 42 million Americans are affected by SBDs.

One of the most prevalent types of SBD is Obstructive Sleep Apnea, a medical condition in which the tongue and soft tissues obstruct the airway, preventing proper airflow into the lungs. What are the benefits of breathing through the nose?

Your nose is a superhero when it comes to safe, efficient, and proper breathing. It rocks some incredible powers, including:

Filtering out the bad stuff: That slime and those nasal hairs? They work like tiny bouncers, keeping dust, allergens, and pollen from crashing your lungs’ party.

Moisturizing like a pro: Your nose knows how to add some moisture to the air you breathe. It warms things up and adds a touch of hydration, so your lungs can handle it like a champ.

Boosting circulation with nitric oxide: When you take a breath through your nose, it’s like your nose high-fiving your blood vessels. It releases nitric oxide (NO), a fancy vasodilator that helps widen those blood vessels. That means better oxygen flow throughout your body.

So, next time you take a breath, give your nose a little nod of appreciation for all the incredible things it does to keep you breathing like a boss!

How often do we wear the device?

Treatment times during the day will vary by age and case complexity. But generally speaking for kids about 1-2 hours during the day and while sleeping overnight. They’re like little guides, helping with the natural growth and development of your child’s mouth, jaws, and airways. They do an incredible job of counteracting the negative impacts of modern life on their oral health. It’s all about promoting a healthy future! For Adults since the dynamic growth we knew as a child is a thing of the past, it takes more time to stimulate that ever important growth and development. Depending on the appliance system selected, appliance wear could range between 12-16 hours per day. The good news is this includes while you sleep, taking care of the majority of the treatment time.
