Many childhood health problems can be

linked to poor jaw development.

ADHD, bedwetting, teeth grinding, tonsillitis, hyperactivity, asthma, night terrors

Today’s kids are experiencing more health challenges than ever before, and many physicians don’t have good answers for why—or how to combat them. Discouraged, parents turn to medication to offer their children some relief.

But here’s what’s really happening…

Our Jaws Are Shrinking!

Your child’s face and jaw development determines everything from proper airway volume to the position and alignment of their teeth—even their facial beauty!

Proper breast feeding is vital to creating the environment for learning proper function, and from there, setting the stage for optimal development. Bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, finger sucking are just a few items that have been working against our function and development for decades.

Furthermore, scientists have found that our modern lifestyles and processed diets have altered our gene expression, resulting in smaller jaws. This is a serious concern because it impacts our ability to breathe and sleep correctly, causing a multitude of other issues!

Does Your Child Have Any Of These Signs?

  • Crowded Crooked Teeth
  • Snoring
  • Teeth Grinding
  • ADHD/ADD
  • Bedwetting
  • Tongue or lip ties

Our smaller jaws impact our airway development, which can lead to a wide variety of other symptoms and health issues.

Dentists can—and do!—play an essential role in caring for patients with certain sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBD), and they are well-positioned to identify patients at greater risk of SRBD. These disorders can be caused by many different things and are treated most successfully when dentists and medical professionals work together.

Who Does It Affect?

A recent study found that up to 93% of kids have malocclusion (crooked teeth), which is a visual sign of the underdeveloped jaws that cause possible breathing issues.

In children, a dentist’s recognition of poor jaw or facial development (or other risk factors) early on may lead to a medical referral or intervention to treat and/or prevent SRBD. Because these issues are often related to smaller jaws and mouth breathing, it’s critical to train patients to shift to nasal breathing instead.

The O.A.S.I.S Wellness Center's Integrative Solutions

When it comes to kids the treatments offered are preventative, pre-orthodontic strategies that look to support and correct proper jaw development, improve the development of the airway promoting nasal breathing and preventing—possibly fixing—many health problems in their future. We treat the root causes of crooked teeth, often without the need for braces or tooth extraction.

The optimal age range for this therapy is typically from 3 to 12 years old, but this can transcend to even younger and older ages as needed, and our Integrative Solutions can also help adults. Treatment entails utilizing removable oral appliances for treatment periods that vary with age and case complexity. Kids typically wear their appliances for 1-2 hours during the day and throughout the night while sleeping. These appliances play a crucial role in directing natural growth and development, countering the negative impacts of contemporary lifestyles on our patient’s mouths, jaws, and airways.

At OASIS Wellness Center, we use advanced imaging and thorough diagnostics to formulate a detailed treatment plan customized to each patient.

FAQ’s

Will it help with my crowded/crooked teeth?

Our providers take a case-by-case approach to help your child breathe better at night and promote a healthy airway. That’s our main goal, no doubt about it. But here’s the exciting part: along the way, we often see some fantastic bonuses. We can help your child achieve a beautiful smile and maintain a healthy tongue posture. And guess what? As the magic happens to promote jaw growth, we create more space for those teeth to fit perfectly in their mouth. Say goodbye to crowded teeth if we achieve that goal!

However, based on the individual goals and expectations, your child might still need a little help from orthodontics to get that perfectly aligned end result. But here’s why we do what we do: we want your child to have the best shot at a good night’s rest and improved breathing. Because when they can breathe better, guess what? They become better sleepers. And when they sleep well, they become better learners. It’s a win-win situation!

So let’s join forces, give your child the gift of proper rest and improved breathing, and watch them blossom into a learning superstar. Let’s make their journey to a healthier airway an exciting and rewarding one!

Is O.A.S.I.S Wellness Center covered by insurance?

Good news!

Although we do not partner with any Insurance companies, you have the option to seek reimbursement for orthodontic services through your dental insurance company. We will be happy to assist with this process by providing the necessary procedure codes and forms. However, it’s important to note that your dental plan might have some limits or exclusions on the coverage amount for orthodontics. For instance, there could be an annual maximum or a waiting period between dental treatments. Some plans may also have a lifetime maximum for orthodontic treatment.

To better understand your plan, it’s best to reach out directly to your Medical/Dental insurance company directly. They’ll be able to provide you with the specifics related to your coverage and answer any questions you may have. It’s always good to stay informed and make the most of your insurance benefits!

What qualifies your doctors to treat my child?

At OASIS Wellness Center, this kind of specialized dentistry is all we do so our highly qualified professionals are ready to take on the challenge of multidisciplinary care for patients with sleep-related breathing disorders. These dental superheroes hold current dental licenses, but that’s not all! They’ve also received special training in the exciting fields of Development, Airway, and Dental Sleep Medicine.

And here’s the best part: they’ve already worked their magic on hundreds of kiddos, providing top-notch developmental and airway therapy. So rest assured, you’re in great hands with our experienced team. Let’s get started on your journey to better sleep and improved breathing!

What are the benefits of breathing through the nose?

Your nose is a superhero when it comes to safe, efficient, and proper breathing. It rocks some incredible powers, including:

Filtering out the bad stuff: That slime and those nasal hairs? They work like tiny bouncers, keeping dust, allergens, and pollen from crashing your lungs’ party.

Moisturizing like a pro: Your nose knows how to add some moisture to the air you breathe. It warms things up and adds a touch of hydration, so your lungs can handle it like a champ.

Boosting circulation with nitric oxide: When you take a breath through your nose, it’s like your nose high-fiving your blood vessels. It releases nitric oxide (NO), a fancy vasodilator that helps widen those blood vessels. That means better oxygen flow throughout your body.

So, next time you take a breath, give your nose a little nod of appreciation for all the incredible things it does to keep you breathing like a boss!

How often does my child wear it?

Treatment times during the day will vary by age and case complexity. But generally speaking for kids about 1-2 hours during the day and while sleeping overnight. They’re like little guides, helping with the natural growth and development of your child’s mouth, jaws, and airways. They do an incredible job of counteracting the negative impacts of modern life on their oral health. It’s all about promoting a healthy future! For Adults since the dynamic growth we knew as a child is a thing of the past, it takes more time to stimulate that ever important growth and development. Depending on the appliance system selected, appliance wear could range between 12-16 hours per day. The good news is this includes while you sleep, taking care of the majority of the treatment time.

How long is the treatment?

The treatment time may differ depending on the patient’s starting age and the severity of their case. Don’t worry, though! Your O.A.S.I.S Provider will set treatment goals and provide you with a general idea of how long it might take. There will be multiple progress checks to ensure the case is on track. It’s all about moving forward together!

Making a difference one patient at a time!

Dr. Crespo and his staff are so wonderful! They are always willing to take as much time as necessary to answer questions and help get their patients to the healthiest place possible. Caring, respectful, and always striving to help you get optimal oral and breathing health!

Tammy Loudermilt

For starters, we drive 5 hours just to see Dr. Crespo. Yes, 10 hours round trip. Why? First, my background as a nurse with a masters degree means I learned how to research. For the past decade, I have been in a deep dive to learn how our body truly heals and becomes healthy, and how we can prevent so many detrimental health conditions that are so prevalent. What I have found is health of the whole body starts with the mouth. This is serious business when it comes to our health, and most dentists are completely ignorant of this. Dr. Crespo fully understands this link and is passionate about helping shape the entire oral-cranial system so that it sets our children up for optimal health and helps adults work on correcting health conditions already causing issues. In addition to Dr. Crespo’s vast knowledge, skills, and passion for health is his bedside manner. He and his staff are so incredible with the kids! They are truly gifted with a love and understanding of children. So, yes, I set aside an entire day to take my boys to see Dr. Crespo and crew because I want to give them the best foundation for a life of health and wellness.

Amy Woolridge

I am 68 and Dr. Crespo has changed the way I breathe for the better. The benefits are sleeping longer and waking up rested, my resting heart beat ( according to my fit bit) is consistently lower and I just feel better. I appreciate the fact that he explained everything and displays a genuine passion to help people. I will never be a mouth breather again 😃
